Submission for a Digital Channel
I'm making a new one. Sorry about the incomplete portfolio for Northern Life, I had exactly zero time at all to finish it. Oh well. The station is called "WightTV."

ABOUT WIGHTTV
The Isle of Wight has no channel of its own. There's no platform for the voices of the local people to be heard. There's no ITV or BBC region for it. We want to change things. WightTV has been set up to rectify this problem.

SAMPLE PROGRAMMING
Under the Bridge (6x60)
Think of it as "The OC" meets The Isle of Wight. Four rich families in a sleepy coastal town start clashing, and causing trouble. There's plenty of fighting. Will the respective families' issues ever be resolved?

Icons (24x60)
Icons is a show that gets in-depth on the lives of local artists, musicians, and entertainers, from the beginning to the current day.

Hmm..I have no idea how that works since Rowridge main transmitter comes from Isle of Wright and covers a chunk of the Central Southern area

Could they could set up a small transmitter on the island?

Yes, that's what WightTV is doing.

Which I won't allow. Setting up a new Isle of Wight only transmitter will mean an additional analogue transmission or DTT multiplex will be required, which quite simply isn't possible due to what should be obvious reasons.

Besides, TeleSouth already broadcasts to the Isle of Wight with news and current affairs programme opt-outs. We fear this new digital channel may only serve as a form of interference into our broadcast area.

maybe it could be a 'freeview' only digital channel as apposed to a regular channel, couldnt the network impose some 'must carry' segments from TeleSouth for this new proposed channel? or something alike? maybe make the proposed channel re-transmit some of TeleSouth's old programmes?

The reason the new rules were introduced were to relax requirements on DTT, therefore we will not be imposing a must-carry. Plus, there is the problem that this will cover the whole South region, rather than just the Isle of Wight.

That problem can be fixed with a similar method of that used in the US to black out a sport event on one channel that airs locally on another. WightTV could simply be blacked out to all of Southern England and not carried by any service there.

And cannot easily be blacked out in the appropriate area(s). Therefore I just cannot support this submission.
