Couldn't all the regions use internet streaming to send programmes to each other, so for example if a networked Vision show was scheduled couldn't V Group send it over the internet (it is free software such as Windows Media Encoder)

Good idea, I don't think WMV is a good format, however maybe MPEG-2, plus we would need a ultra high speed connection. Prehaps 10 MBps

WMV9 would be much better than MPEG-2 as it's based upon MPEG-4. The ideal format would be H.264 (a form of MPEG-4), which is used on the BBC HD transmissions. And yes I high speed connection would be needed. Normally a high speed connection would be provided by Network Control via it's intranet, but as said it's out of action, so it's up to you guys to find one.

At the end of the day, it's not really advised as it can be unreliable when setup at such short notice.

Well, maybe the network should invest in case something like this happens again.

I think after this NetSIX will learn it's lesson and have a back up broadcasting centre.

TVB's Actions!

The feed cut out during a report on the National News and the caption that was made pixelated

The generic coastpark plc testcard then goes live for about 3 minutes

A breakdown caption then went live for about 15 minutes while TVB technicans try to piece together what has happened

Once TVB technicans have found out what happened after they couldnt ping nor trace the Network Feed a still ident was aired for about 1 minute and then quite a shaky annoucer said "Hello your watching TVB, due to a technical fault we have a change to the advertised programmes here at six this evening, now lets have a look at what we have on"

The caption changes to a programme menu and the announcer continues..."due to a technical fault here at TVB this evening we are unable to rejoin the six national news in place of that programme there is a repeat of 8 Simple Rules in a few moments and after that we have Solway Tonight with the local news that matters to you plus a roundup of the latest national and international news. We aploagise for the break of programme again this evening on TVB, now 8 Simple Rules.

Of course, the real on-vision graphics wouldn't have those safe areas still embedded in them, right?

Andy B Wrote:It could take a week to get back to normal (that's after they sort out the power) we need to think of a temporary schedule for all to show on the air waves.

Prehaps we can mix and match network programming.
I guess that tapes could be sent out for pre-recorded shows, but local news teams in each area could do the news (unless the network news provider gets uplink sorted out then each region could take the national news from that!)

We could always send out a same day courier with the news, or Taff could send through the scripts and small video fragments.
